SHIFT: 12:00 noon - 8:00 pm
Wednesday to Sunday
with flexibility as required for both days and hours

SUMMARY: : Under the direction of the Superintendent of Recreation performs primary maintenance and specific events job duties as required in the maintenance and repair of municipal grounds, including indoor/outdoor pools and Ice Rink.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: includes all maintenance duties as well as the following.
  • Work Special Events including, but are not limited to, the Recreation Department list of events throughout the year including overseeing of part time employees at the event.
  • Assist bands with set up for lights and power for Town related concerts.
  • Responsible for picking up food and essentials for concerts.
  • Responsible for the set-up and take-down of all technical equipment for movies shown at various locations throughout Town.
  • Responsible to set-up, maintain and take-down of audio and technical equipment for concerts in the park
  • Travel to other towns that are interested in outdoor movies, to show set-up, stay the duration and take-down the technical equipment.
  • Aids in set up for summer camp programs and transporting equipment to various locations.
  • Work kids/teen nights at the swim club; summer camp events.
  • Provide daily maintenance of pool including chemical treatment and monitoring; train staff to use chemical controllers, pool vacuums and test pools for appropriate chemical levels.
  • Start of all slides, water games, back wash and change pump baskets.
  • Help with pool start up at beginning of season, and breakdown pool at seasons end, store chemicals, cover pumps and electrical components, winterize pump house for winter.
  • Prepare and maintain ice at Rink for opening day and daily use; repair holes in the ice, check on chillers daily, cut ice for sessions, practices, and games.
  • Keep track of and order various supplies, including chemical and cleaning items for pools and ice rink.
  • Maintain Zamboni equipment, train new drivers.
  • Perform maintenance duties for all recreation facilities and fields throughout the year, as may be needed.
  • Set-up equipment at various fields, including soccer netting, football pads, bases for softball games, transport the equipment to various locations.
  • Perform other maintenance and / or special event related activities as may be required by the superintendent of Recreation and / or management.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • High School Diploma required or equivalent.
  • Possess CPO certification.
  • Minimum two (2) years plus experience in related environment.
  • Possess technical pool operations skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English.
  • Must have a valid New Jersey driver's license free from motor vehicle convictions for the last three (3) years.
  • Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, and practices and of the occupational hazards and safely precautions involved in performing general maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions; to take needed safety precautions in performing the work; to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute and properly use needed equipment, materials, and supplies, and to maintain records.
  • Ability to gather and monitor information in the recreation field.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with the public in both telephone and face to face meetings, sometimes under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and independent judgment to carry out instructions furnished in oral and written form.
  • Must be prepared to work a shift schedule, which may involve evening/night or weekend work.
  • Hours will be flexible as per need for special events as not to cause excessive overtime, thereby, often resulting in a varying weekly work schedule.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to l O pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception. The duties require excellent physical dexterity to be able to fit into confined spaces and trenches, as may be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
